New era begins at ICTAM
December 18, 2022, marked the beginning of a new era in the ICT Association of Malawi as members voted in new leaders during an elective Annual General Meeting (AGM) held at Sunbird Nkopola Hotel in Mangochi District.
During the election aspiring candidates in various positions were given an opportunity to share with the members their vision and plans, if elected in such roles.
At the end of the election, Clarence Gama was elected President of the Association, Mayamiko Nkoloma was elected Vice President, Andrew Kamwend as General Secretary and Elizabeth Masache as Treasurer General.
Yusuf Chimole was elected as Executive Member responsible for Innovation, Moses Dossi was elected Executive Member for Corporate Membership while Tuntufye Mwamlima was elected Executive Member responsible for Women in ICT.
ICTAM advocates for a progressive tax regime in the 2023/24 Budget
On January 9, 2023, the Ministry of Finance and Economic Affairs began soliciting views on how the 2023/24 National Budget should be crafted.The ICT Association of Malawi (ICTAM) emphasized the need for a downward revision or abolishment of certain tax lines in order to propel the ICT sector.
ICTAM President, Clarence Gama, stressed that lenience on some taxation lines linked to the sector would make ICT services affordable to a larger percentage of the population hence growing the economy.
ICTAM seeks recognition
Representatives of the ICT Association of Malawi (Ictam) have revealed that drafting of a bill that seeks to have the body recognised in the Communications Act are at an advanced stage and expected to be presented to Parliament soon.In an interview, President of the association, Bram Fudzulani, said the initiative is meat to help it enforce professional code of conduct and ethics within the industry.
